Special Masses and Services Planned for Memorial Day Weekend in Maine

Bishop Deeley to Celebrate Memorial Day Mass at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewiston

PORTLAND—Many Masses and prayer services are planned for churches and cemeteries around Maine on Memorial Day Weekend (May 26-28).

Bishop Robert P. Deeley will celebrate a Memorial Day Mass on Monday, May 28, at 10 a.m. in the mausoleum chapel at St. Peter’s Cemetery on 217 Switzerland Road in Lewiston. All are invited to attend the Mass.

Here is a list of other Memorial Day Masses and services planned around Maine (listed by city/town):

Bangor
St. Paul the Apostle Parish will celebrate an outdoor Mass at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, located on 449 Ohio Street in Bangor, on Monday, May 28, at 9:00 a.m. In the event of rain, the Mass will be held at St. Mary Church on 768 Ohio Street in Bangor.

Biddeford (St. Joseph Cemetery)
Good Shepherd Parish will hold a Memorial Day prayer service on Sunday, May 27, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery on 120 West Street in Biddeford. The service will be held at the site of the chapel and will be canceled if it rains.

Biddeford (St. Mary’s Cemetery)
A Memorial Day Prayer Service will also be held on Sunday, May 27, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery on 530 Elm Street in Biddeford. The service, organized by Good Shepherd Parish, will be held at the flag pole in the St. Patrick section of the cemetery. The service will be canceled if it rains.

Bridgton
St. Joseph Parish will celebrate a Memorial Day Mass on Monday, May 28, at Saint Joseph Church on 225 South High Street in Bridgton at 8 a.m.

Brunswick
All Saints Parish will hold a Memorial Day prayer service at St. John’s Cemetery in Brunswick on Monday, May 28, at 11 a.m. The service will be led by Fr. Robert Lupo.

Houlton (Cemetery on Military Street) 
St. Mary of the Visitation Parish will hold a prayer service at the old cemetery behind St. Mary of the Visitation Church, located on 112 Military Street in Houlton, following the 6 p.m. Mass on Saturday, May 26.

Houlton (Cemetery on County Road) 
St. Mary of the Visitation Parish will hold a Memorial Day Service at St. Mary’s Cemetery on County Road on Monday, May 28, at 9 a.m.

Island Falls
Memorial Day prayers will be offered at the cemetery, located on Belvedere Road, on Sunday, May 27, following the 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Agnes Church in Island Falls.

Livermore Falls
Weather permitting, Fr. Paul Dumais will celebrate a Memorial Day Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery, located on 445 Park Street in Livermore Falls, on Monday, May 28, at 1 p.m. Please bring a lawn chair.

Manchester  
St. Michael Parish will celebrate a Memorial Day Mass on Monday, May 28, at 9 a.m. at St. Mary Cemetery on Pelton Hill in Manchester.

Rumford
Fr. Nathan March will celebrate Memorial Day Mass at St. John’s Cemetery, located on Isthmus Road in Rumford, on Monday, May 28, at 8:15 a.m.

South Portland
The annual outdoor Mass for deceased veterans and family members will be held on Monday, May 28, at 9 a.m. in the New Calvary Cemetery on 1461 Broadway in South Portland. Msgr. Paul Stefanko will be the principal celebrant at the Mass, which will be celebrated in the St. Dominic/Armed Forces section. Seating is limited so please bring a lawn chair if possible. In the event of rain, the Mass will be held at Holy Cross Church on 124 Cottage Road in South Portland.

Yarmouth
A Memorial Day Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Cemetery on Smith Street in Yarmouth on Monday, May 28, at 9 a.m. In the event of rain, the Mass will be moved to Sacred Heart Church on 326 Main Street in Yarmouth.
