At last, back by popular demand, Soup and Poetry will be enjoyed again in the upstairs Children’s Room at the Calais Free Library. Sponsored by the Friends of the Calais Free Library, the evening will start off at 6 p.m. with delicious soups and breads and convivial conversation among people who enjoy using and hearing words. That will lead into the Poetry part of the evening, during which a wide variety of poetry will be shared. Some will be poetry of the classics, while others will be new, even read by the authors themselves. Young people and families are especially welcome. Perhaps someone will again write and read a poem that has been inspired on the spot and for the occasion. One never knows what delights will occur when Soup and Poetry are combined.
The Friends of the Calais Free Library have been very frustrated in their attempts to find someplace to see their, now boxed, collection of used books. Every idea ended in disappointment. At last, they believe there is a viable plan in place, but the results will take a year or more to be seen. Meanwhile, this well-loved occasion is giving them something good to do, while they wait anxiously to be back at their stations, making books available to all. New members are still most welcome, as well as ideas for things that might be accomplished in the meantime.
So come join with other soup and poetry lovers to satisfy body, heart, and mind on Saturday, April 26th at 6:00 p.m. in the Children’s Room of the Calais Free Library. For more information, call the library during open hours, Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
