The Concert Series, a constituent group of the Eastport Arts Center, presents Soprano Mary Mackenzie on Saturday, July 5th at 7pm. Mackenzie, praised by New York Times as “a soprano of extraordinary agility and concentration” will give a complete performance of Pierrot Lunaire, by Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951). This piece, for voice and five instruments, still sounds as fresh, intense, dramatic, complex, and intractable as it did at its premiere in Berlin in October 1912. In addition, she will perform moon-themed selections from the American songbook by Irving Berlin, Lionel Hampton, Van Morrison & others. Her chamber music accompanists will be Eve Friedman on flute & piccolo, Patti Kilroy on violin & viola, Anna Maria Baeza on clarinet & bass clarinet, Joachim Woitun on cello, and Gregory Biss on piano.
Admission is $10, free for 18 and under. A reception will follow with refreshments courtesy of Sweeties Downeast.
