Perry – Sipp Bay

Sipp Bay is located deep inside legendary Cobscook Bay. At high tide the water is usually very calm, offering even the most inexperienced kayaker a peaceful paddle for the exploration of undeveloped coastal islands, marshes and tributaries. The birding is great in these quiet waters where shorebirds (in season), sea ducks, and great blue herons are common. A resident pair of Bald Eagles nest and raise their chicks in the Bay, and the group will surely be keeping an eye or two open for them. As the tide turns, the water picks up speed and the current will take us through the narrows and back to the beach on East Bay. Human history, as well as natural history, will be discussed as the peninsula creating the narrows is very important to the Passamaquoddy Tribe.

For this Sipp Bay trip MCHT is teaming up with Steve and Tess Ftorek of Cobscook Bay Paddles for a wonderfully guided paddle through the bay. Local MCHT steward Deirdre Whitehead will also be joining as well and participants will be delighted with the wealth of knowledge and interpretation the three leaders bring.

The trip is family-friendly and appropriate for kids 6 years old and up. Rain date is July 7. The cost is $50 per person, which includes kayak, equipment, instruction, and naturalist interpretation. The paddle is limited to 24 participants.
