Salt of the Earth movie flyer.

This rousing 1954 movie dramatizes a strike by Mexican-American miners in New Mexico who won their epic battle against corporate greed and ethnic bias. No less, it highlights the struggle for gender equality waged by the miners’ wives, who played a pivotal role in the strike—against the men’s wishes.
Released in the McCarthy era, Salt of the Earth was suppressed by corporate and political leaders upset by its pro-labor, pro-equality theme—they called it “un-American.” On the film’s 60th anniversary, we proudly revive it in Ellsworth. Come see it for yourself.
