EAST MILLINOCKET — Eastern Maine Community College‘s Katahdin Higher Education Center in East Millinocket and RSU 67/Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln are pleased to announce the creation of a new community Adult Education partnership. This program aims to assist adults in the Katahdin Region to secure greater economic opportunities by providing cost effective and attainable pathways to secondary education by also earning a high school equivalency diploma.
The HiSET (formally known as the GED) testing and the administration of the E-CASAS exam (an assessment of foundational skills knowledge), as well as personalized support, will be offered under the necessary state policies and guidelines for those in need of foundational academic skills to raise aspirations for academic progress and employment through academic and employability training. RSU 67 and The Katahdin Higher Education Center will collaboratively provide locally accessible classes via technology as well as professional academic and career advising services and tutoring. This new program is set to begin this month.
The Katahdin Region Higher Education Center of Eastern Maine Community College and the University of Maine System is an off-campus center in the Katahdin Region where people can take courses, pursue degrees, and receive all the support they need to earn a degree close to home and on schedules that fit into their family and work lives. Courses are taught by faculty on-site, online, or two-way videoconferencing. Academic advising, tutoring, study skills workshops, computer access, library services and student activities are available to help support individual student success.
