HAMPDEN, Maine — Sara Kingsbury of Hampden was the recipient of the RSU 19 Most Outstanding Teacher Award on Aug. 26, at Nokomis High School in Newport. RSU 19 Principal Richard Fernald nominated her for the award.

Kingsbury teaches second grade at Corinna Elementary School.

Principal Richard Fernald submitted the following: “This teacher has been with RSU 19 for just a few years but what a difference she’s made. The students in her room have experienced a dedicated teacher with a big heart and a wealth of knowledge. She’s taught in the 21st Century program after school and during the summer to extend and reinforce the content taught throughout the school year.

“She has a wonderful rapport with her students. They appreciate her contemporary style and the high expectations she has for them. She marvels them with her technology expertise and is always willing to assist the entire school in anyway she can.

“When the criteria for Outstanding Veteran Teacher was released, it fit this person to a “T”….She is what we want all teachers to emulate, by having the knowledge of her content and the compassionate attributes necessary to reach children.

She’s always willing to take on a new challenge, from getting her Master’s degree, to a new after-school program or taking on a new teaching assignment in her building this year. Corinna is proud of Sara Kingsbury.”

RSU 19 is composed of the towns of Corinna, Dixmont, Etna, Hartland, Newport, Palmyra, Plymouth and St. Albans.
