Red Cross to honor local heroes at breakfast ceremony

BANGOR, Maine —  Nine individuals and two organizations in the Greater Bangor region are being honored as “Real Heroes” by the Pine Tree Chapter of American Red Cross of Maine for going above and beyond in service to others.

These heroes will be recognized for their good works at a breakfast 7-9 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at Jeff’s Catering and Convention Center, Brewer.

“This is really about service to others — about selflessly giving to help another person in a time of need,” says Todd Nadeau, executive director of the Pine Tree Chapter, which includes Aroostook, Penobscot, and Piscataquis counties, in a press release. “This award recognizes and thanks these very special individuals for taking action and making a difference.”

The recipients in the Greater Bangor region are: Michael Hashey and Jamie Slauenwhite, Old Town Police Department; Kirk Sperrey, Clifton; Bonnie Martin and Ashley Patterson, Bangor; Chief Steven Emery, Officer Jeff Vanadestine, and Junior Firefighter Ryan Michael Havey, Town of Pittsfield Police and Fire Departments; Master Sgt. Arthur UnobskeyMaine Air National Guard, 101st Air Refueling Wing; Ellsworth Moose Lodge as Blood Hero Award; WABI-TV5, Extra Mile Award (Corporate Supporter Award).
