Rockport/Camden – Ashwood Waldorf School presents “Raising Health Children in the Age of Technology,” a two-day conference for parents, teachers, counselors, and child care providers featuring author, educator and NPR commentator Jack Petrash. Continuing education units are available for professionals in the areas of social work, counseling, and teaching.

The conference will kick off on Friday evening, October 19, 6:30-8:00 p.m., with the keynote presentation. “Raising healthy children in today’s technological world is a demanding undertaking,” says Petrash. “Sometimes it is difficult to know where to begin. As parents, teachers and counselors, our assignment can seem complex and at times bewildering. And yet, it is possible to raise children who have the essential skills they will need for tomorrow’s world—focus, perseverance, impulse control, emotional intelligence, and the ability to be organized.”

Location for the Friday evening session is the John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John Street, Camden.
Fee: by donation (CEU: 1.5 contact hours $20).

The conference continues on Saturday, October 20, 8:45 a.m.–1:00 p.m., with a presentation on “The Gift of Resilience: Preparing our Children for the Tests They Will Face in Life”. Following the presentation, there will be break out sessions for teachers, therapists and parents to share insights. Participants in this workshop will discover new ways to endow children with “the courage to learn”; develop new insights into external pressures that lead us to overindulge children; consider how to adapt child-rearing and educational practices of the past to our current situation; and explore new ways to respond to stress in our lives so that we can be healthy role models for the children in our care.
Location for this session is Ashwood Waldorf School, 180 Park Street, Rockport.
Fee: $30-65 sliding scale (CEU: 4 contact hours $65).
There is an optional networking luncheon following the workshop ($15).
Jack Petrash has been a classroom teacher for more than 30 years and has extensive experience as a teacher of teachers.
