GREENVILLE JCT— Recently the winner for the Greenville Junction Depot Quilt Raffle was announced. Deen Chaykowski of Belfast lovingly created the quilt, incorporated with railroad themes and depot history. The winner is Elizabeth DeMerchant who teaches at the Holbrook Middle School in in Holden. DeMerchant was so delighted upon winning the quilt that she took it to school with her and showed her students. Her Lego Club students at the school were glad to see the quilt as well. They build Lego trains each year for the holidays and were impressed with the detail and the train theme.
DeMerchant contacted Jane Hall, Executive Director of the Greenville Junction Depot Friends to express her thanks. “Thanks for the beautiful quilt,” she wrote. “It is wonderfully made by a true artist. I have long wanted to make a train quilt but have not found the time.” She appreciated the use of Depot photographs and trains in the design. “The photos printed onto the fabric illustrate the history of the depot. Color usage…. Reflects the time-period of the depot as well. The quilt is a treasure and I feel very lucky to have won it.”
