November 1, 2013, Camden, Me.—Quarry Hill Retirement Community in Camden played host as Mid-Coast School of Technology (MST) awarded certificates to 9 new graduates of its Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, October 30.
In remarks to the graduates and attending friends and family, Quarry Hill administrator Mary Sargent praised the new CNAs’ “courage, compassion, and kindness” and welcomed them to “a community of healthcare that supports you in your practice.”
Two Quarry Hill CNAs also offered remarks.
Kathy Tilton, CNA-M, described her work as “a calling, not a job” and urged the graduates to “leave your problems outside the door, but bring your joy to work. Your patients want it and need it.”
Sarah Brenner, CNA, agreed: “You’re not just a CNA,” she said. “You’re an important part of your patients’ lives.”
Mid-Coast’s nine-week, 216-hour CNA curriculum covers a wide range of basic nursing skills. In addition to classroom instruction, students complete clinical training at nursing-care centers at Quarry Hill and the Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland.
“We’re thankful to Pen Bay Healthcare for the varied, practical experience its two senior-living centers provide for our students,” said MST director of adult education Marianne Doyle.
