Piscataquis County has a lot to offer in the way of fun activities for families. One of the great things that sets the county apart is the numerous family festivals held here throughout the summer.
This summer, the sweet Town of Milo hosted the Black Fly Festival, residents celebrated with Sangerville for their Bicentennial Celebration, we watched as over a dozen hot-air balloons graced the sky at the 2nd Annual Piscataquis Hot Air Balloon Festival, we saw over seventy-five hundred people satisfy their sweet tooth at the 5th annual Whoopie Pie Festival, and we will enjoy a family-fun-filled day at Monson’s SummerFest on Saturday, July 19th.
One week later, on July 26th, hundreds of families will gather in Guilford, Maine for the Piscataquis River Festival. This year’s theme is “Duck Dynasty”.
Activities begin at 7am for the Riverfest breakfast at Guilford United Methodist Church, 3 School St. The menu includes eggs, sausage, ham, French toast, home fries, toast, blueberry coffee cake, juice and coffee. Cost is by donation. Breakfast is followed by a free “Kids Fun Run”, a 5K Road Race, a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, a parade, a pig scramble, live music, a pie eating contest, a rubber duck race, and a fireworks display at dark.
Families can also expect many craft and food booths, an alumni softball game, a fireman’s hose fountain, a water slide, kids’ activities including a bounce house and a treasure hunt. This will be a memorable day!
