The season’s 10th Mary Potterton Memorial Concert will feature Pianist Mira Gill on August 15th at 7:30 p.m.

Mira Gill earned her Master and Bachelor degrees from The Juilliard School of Music, and made her New York debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in 1997. She has performed widely in this country and abroad, as well as on radio and TV, and her recital at Steinway Hall was recorded on CD in 2005. Ms. Gill is a native of Salt Lake City, but of East-Indian descent.

For her concert, Ms. Gill will play Franz Liszt’s “Sonata in B minor.” Published in 1854, it is dedicated to Robert Schumann and is often considered Liszt’s greatest composition for solo piano. One of Liszt’s four brilliant and devilish Mephisto Waltzes will also make an appearance.

Composed in 1940, Sergei Prokofiev’s “Piano Sonata No. 6 in A major” is the first of his “Three War Sonatas.” The sonata was first performed on April 8th, 1940, in Moscow. It consists of four movements, the despairing Allegro moderato, the march-like Allegretto, the romantic waltz Tempo di valzer lentissimo, and the closing, rapid rondo, Vivace.

This concert will be upstairs in Lubec’s Congregational Christian Church, 7:30 p.m., with intermission refreshments provided by The Cobscook Community Learning Center.
