Penobscot County Federal Credit Union is helping prepare families, in Penobscot County, for summer vacation. It has been identified that many children living in the area are food insecure, meaning they oftentimes don’t know where their next meal is going to come from. These children rely on food provided to them, during school hours (free/reduced lunch.) When this food is unavailable, due to weekends or school vacations, it is important that they still have access to healthy, easy to prepare foods.

PCFCU is spending the last several weeks of school collecting as much food as they can, which will be delivered to area schools before summer vacation. Items may be dropped off at any of the Credit Unions three branches: Bangor, Howland or Old Town.

April 1 – April 15: Snack Items (granola bars, fruit snacks, etc)
April 16 – April 30: Peanut Butter & Jelly
May 1 – May 15: Boxed Favorites (whole grain rice, pasta, etc)
May 16 – May 31: Canned Goods
June 3 – June 7: Monetary Donations (to purchase fresh produce)

Penobscot County FCU is involved with many area non-profits and community outreach efforts, with Maine Credit Union’s Campaign for Ending Hunger being one of their top fundraisers throughout the year. If you would like additional information regarding these efforts, or the food drive specifically, please contact Jess Francis, Branch/Marketing Manager, at 207-941-6373.
