LEWISTON, Maine — Patti Gagne, a lifelong Lewiston area resident with deep roots in the community, has announced she is a candidate for Maine Senate District 21.

Gagne is the owner of the Patti Gagne Insurance Agency. She serves on the Board of Appeals for the City of Lewiston, and is the current chair of the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce. Gagne says she would like to continue that record of public service by representing the people of Lewiston in the Maine Senate, according to her press release.

“I want to make a difference in our community and serving the people of Lewiston in the Maine Senate would be a true honor.

When I arrive in Augusta, I will be beholden not to a political party or to special interests, but to the people of Lewiston. I will make it my priority to weigh each issue on its merits and decide whether it is in the best interests of the people of Lewiston. I plan to do a lot of listening on the campaign trail and at the Capitol,” she said.

Gagne has decades of experience in the insurance industry and says she is eager to help craft policy that is aimed at lowering the cost of both insurance and health care.

“As a business owner and Chair of the Chamber of Commerce, I understand the challenge of meeting a payroll and what it takes to create jobs. It’s encouraging to see Maine’s unemployment rate fall, but clearly more needs to be done.”

Gagne says as a legislator, she will work to prioritize state spending, and at the same time ensure Maine fulfills its promises to its most vulnerable citizens.

“Maine has a rapidly expanding elderly population, and I want to make sure those folks are taken care of. They are our mothers, fathers, and grandparents who built the foundation of our community and they cannot fall through the cracks.

“I also believe that if Maine is going to compete on a national and global scale, we need to reduce our energy costs, and that means having a sound energy policy.”

Patti Gagne has been married to her husband, Ernie, who is a teacher at Lewiston’s Geiger Elementary School, for 25 years. They are the parents of two children, Stephanie, who is a nurse at Central Maine Medical Center, and Scott, a business management student at the University of Southern Maine.
