At a recent visit to The Herring Gut Learning Center, Cindy Lucas, President of The Owls Head Garden Club and Hannah Nelsbach, Vice President of the club presented Alexandria Brisili with a check for $1,000 dollars. Brisili is the Island Institute Fellow/First Work Experience Coordinator at the Center. The funds will be used to sponsor four youngsters from RSU13 in the Learning Center’s summer program. The program teaches 13-15 year olds indoor and outdoor gardening. It also teaches them how to manage and run the farm stand where they sell the vegetables they raise.
Herring Gut Learning Center is a non-profit marine education center overlooking a working harbor in the small fishing village of Port Clyde, Maine. They use the abundant coastal resources surrounding their campus to present aquaculture and marine science programs.
