L-R: Dick Brucher, Jennifer Hancock, Hailey Crabtree and Joel Crabtree appear in the Orono Community Theatre production of Proof, Jan. 16-19 & 24-26 at the Cyrus Pavilion Theatre, University of Maine.

Orono Community Theatre announces a change of venue for their next production. The Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “Proof” will be performed at the Cyrus Pavilion Theatre on the University of Maine campus in Orono (located directly behind Fogler Library). Director Sandy Cyrus calls the theatre the perfect venue for this intense psychological drama. Cyrus returns to direct in this intimate theatre space for the first time since 1994 when the building was named for her late husband, UMaine Theatre Professor Al Cyrus.

Deb Puhl, Technical Director at Bowdoin College, has designed the set, returning to the place where she designed her very first set as an undergraduate UMaine Theatre major, under the mentorship of the late Professor Cyrus. Hannah Cyrus is Costume Designer and Kaleigh Knights is Stage Manager.

Proof is the story of a brilliant and highly respected math professor at the University of Chicago. Among his papers, after his death, is discovered a groundbreaking mathematical proof, but there is no proof about who wrote the proof. Playwright David Auburn’s script unfolds like a detective story, exploring themes of family resentments, betrayal and trust.

The cast includes Dick Brucher of Orono (current chair of the UMaine English Department), Jennifer Hancock of Bangor, Joel Crabtree and Hailey Crabtree of Orrington.

Performances are January 16, 17, 18, 24 & 25 at 7:30pm and January 19 and 26 at 2pm. Tickets are $12, $6 for UMaine students with ID. Tickets are on sale in advance at Orono Pharmacy and at the door one-half hour before show times. The play contains mature language and due to the intimate nature of the Cyrus Pavilion Theatre, there will be no late seating.
