Mount Desert Island has been an inspiration for a wide variety of talented artists starting with Fredrick Church, Thomas Cole and other painters of the Hudson Valley School back in the 1800’s. The Southwest Harbor Public Library celebrates this rich tradition of art with an art auction each year that benefits both the Library and the artists; the Library shares the proceeds with the artists 50/50. This year over 40 locally inspired artists will participate with an opening reception on Sunday evening, July 27, 5:30 – 7:00 pm. The auction will continue through August 27. Art may be purchased immediately at the ‘Buy It Now’ price or silent bids may be placed on the artwork. Even if you are not interested in purchasing art, this is a beautiful, varied show and well worth the trip to the Library to see it.
Some of the artists will be familiar, they participate every year; others are new to the auction this year. Participating artists include: Lelania Avila, Scott Baltz, Beverly Braun, Chris Breedlove, Corinne Carbone, Ellen Church, Robert Clark, Leza Colquhoun, Walter Dunton Jr., Kathleen M. Frank, Susan Getze, Lydia Goetze, Sandra Gott, Stan Gott, Nancy Hamblen, Nicole Herz, Deborah G.
