Current college students and graduates of the Worthington Scholars Program gathered with local business experts on the morning of Wednesday, May 23 for its first Business Networking Event. Held at the Pen Bay Chamber of Commerce, this breakfast event was meant to provide an opportunity for a handful of Worthington Scholars to network and discuss strategies for finding a job in their desired career field. Professionals from the sectors of Business, Engineering, Healthcare, and Education -the four most common career areas of current Worthington Scholars- were asked to attend.
A total of 15 Worthington Scholars attended this event, including seven first years, five sophomores, two juniors, and one recent graduate from Maine Maritime Academy. The event was attended by professionals from the Allen Agency, Maine Health, First National Bank, DuPont, Continuum Physical Therapy, Worthington Scholarship Foundation, and Pen Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce. Attendees gave advice to current college students on the hiring process, ways to get your “foot in the door”, and how to set yourself apart on your resume and during an interview. Additional topics included opportunities to enhance professional and interpersonal skills and where to look for jobs in each sector.
Attendees enjoyed made-to-order omelets, toast, and mini muffins catered by Main Street Market. The event was co-organized by the Worthington Scholarship Foundation and Pen Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce.
