Peggy Haake of Kahului, Hawaii, was elected National President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States Auxiliary at its 106th National Convention in Orlando, Florida on July 24.
Haake is a life member of Wilbert Wah Hu Tom Auxiliary 3850, which she joined on the eligibility of her husband, Richard, who served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1970-1971. Since joining, she has served the organization in many capacities, including Auxiliary and Department (state) president, National Council member and Western Conference chairman for the Youth Activities program. She is a life member of VFW National Home, Camp Trotter in Michigan, the DAV Auxiliary and the VFW Veteran’s Village in Florida.
Haake retired after 34 years with the Bank of Hawaii. In her spare time she enjoys bowling, golfing, softball, gardening and volunteer work, as well as spending time with her dog, Brie.
Haake will be visiting the Department of Maine Aug. 15-17. She will be arriving at Bangor International Airport at 11:43 a.m. to the welcoming by the Aisle of Honor. After lunch at the Ground Round we will be heading to Machias at the River Inn. At 6 p.m., she and her escorts will arrive at the Bluebird Restaurant for supper with local VFW and VFWA members.
We will be having breakfast on Aug. 16 at 7:30 a.m. at Helen’s Restaurant and then heading off to Columbia Falls for a tour of Wreaths across America. Departing at 11:30 a.m., we will head for Ellsworth Post 109 for a meet and greet luncheon with local VFW and VFWA members.
Prior to her flight out from Portland Jetport, Haake will have breakfast with her Department of Maine VFWA escorts.
