Shake off the winter blues and experience a non-traditional cooking class overlooking Rockland Harbor, the fourth of Georges River Land Trust’s (GRLT) sixteen Revelry for the River events scheduled for 2014.
On Thursday, April 3, from 11 am to 2 pm, hosts Jeanne and Bill Johnson of Breakwater Vineyards and Chef Kerry Altiero of Café Miranda will be pairing culinary creations with select wines.
Breakwater Vineyards, http://www.breakwatervineyards.com/, now in its fifth season, continues to produce award-winning wines on its 32-acre farm and winery in Owl’s Head. Café Miranda, http://www.cafemiranda.com/, is known for offering a big menu of ethnic tastes, and they pride themselves on being a “farm-to-table” restaurant that uses local meats, seafood, and produce. Kerry will charm you with both his food and bright wit while also offering instructional demonstration over three courses served family-style.
The three-course meal is limited to 36 guests, and the cost is $45 for Land Trust members and $55 for non-members. The cooking class and lunch is expected to be popular and sell out quickly. Tickets must be purchased in advance at www.georgesriver.org/revelry or by calling (207) 594-5166.
The George River Land Trust’s 2014 Revelry for the River includes a full year of diverse activities. On May 8th is “Get Your Groove On,” a contra dance event featuring Twisted Strings at the Thomaston Academy. Other upcoming events include ragtime music in Rockport, the Gardens in the Watershed Tour, a garden party in Camden, and exclusive visits to lesser known watershed and coastal places — all showcasing the beauty of the Georges River watershed and continuing the celebration of the Land Trust’s conservation success in mid-coast Maine in its 27th year.
Organized in 1987, the Georges River Land Trust works to conserve the ecosystems and traditional heritage of the Georges River watershed region through permanent land protection, stewardship, education and outdoor experiences.
