PORTLAND, Maine — Mike Redding will join the WCSH 6 (Portland) and WLBZ 2 (Bangor) team as news director on Feb. 25. Redding comes to Maine from Gannett Broadcasting’s WFMY-TV (Greensboro, N.C.), where he served as executive producer.

Mike was the Managing Editor at WDBJ-TV (Roanoke, VA), and a Writing Coach/Reporter/Producer at WCNC-TV (Charlotte).

Mike brings a broad background to the Maine stations with experience at every key media position. At varying points in his career, Redding produced newscasts, worked the assignment desk, covered news for more than 12 years as a general assignment reporter, plus wrote and hosted “Carolina Traveler,” a weekly news magazine show. Sought out for his outstanding storytelling talents, Redding joined Schurz Communications as their journalism/writing coach, a position serving newsrooms at five television stations and a newspaper.

“We are very excited to have someone of Mike’s caliber leading our news organization into the future,” said Steve Carter, president and general manager. “Mike is familiar with the NEWS CENTER brand, and his credentials will only strengthen our broadcast and digital positions in the market.”

Mike has been recognized throughout his career with 28 Emmys, two National Edward R. Murrow Awards, 11 Regional Murrows, and 11 Associated Press awards. In every position he holds, his impact is clearly measurable: notably, during his 11-year tenure at WCNC the station won 73 Emmy Awards, whereas in the decade before his arrival, WCNC had won just 3.

Redding was a 2012 finalist for the Gannett Greater Good Award, recognizing an individual who best represents the company’s shared purpose, which is to serve the greater good in the nation and communities Gannett serves.

In his free time, you’ll find him with his wife, Anna, and their two young boys,Crowley and Quinn, or somewhere in Maine rock climbing.
