AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Department of Corrections has named Michael J. Hicks the manager of the department’s Office of Professional Review.

“I am pleased to announce that Michael J. Hicks has been chosen as the Manager of the Office of Professional Review,” said Director of Operations Ralph Nichols in a press release.

Hicks retired from the Baltimore City Police as a Detective Lieutenant after 21 years of service. Over the years there, he served as a Drug Enforcement Unit Investigator, Vice Unit Supervisor, Administrative Lieutenant, CO General Complaint Section of the Internal Investigation Division and in the Criminal Investigation Division.

Hicks moved to Maine in 2001 where he was later hired by the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, where he was an investigator to the Maine Revenue Services, and then promoted to Lieutenant and oversaw the Court Security Division and Prisoner Transport Unit.

He also was also in charge of the KCCF’s inmate garden program before retiring in 2013.
