LEWISTON, Maine — Kevin Lewis, CEO of Maine Community Health Options (MCHO), recently announced that Debra McKinley has joined the organization as manager, credentialing.

MCHO is a not-for-profit that will provide affordable health insurance to Maine people and small businesses beginning in January 2014. The enrollment start date for the plan is Oct. 1. Organized as a Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan (CO-OP), MCHO’s mission is to provide high-quality benefits that promote health and wellbeing.

McKinley has more than 20 years of experience working in healthcare settings. She was the physician recruiter for St. Mary’s Health System from 2006 to 2012. Prior to that, she worked as a medical staff recruiter for Central Maine Medical Center. The responsibilities of her new role include verifying the background and licensure of providers who sign on to work with the MCHO plan and ensuring that they meet the plan’s standard of care.

McKinley has become keenly aware of the high costs of medical insurance and healthcare from her previous work experiences in hospital systems. She is eager to work with MCHO because its goal is to help people obtain affordable insurance that provides quality care.
McKinley is a Maine native who lives with her extended family in Mechanic Falls.

Maine Community Health Options is a Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan (CO-OP) created through a program of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). MCHO is a private, nonprofit entity governed by a customer-based Board of Directors, which gives enrollees a strong voice in the management and development of the plan.
