BANGOR, Maine — University of Maine Museum of Art’s Leonard Lecture Series will present Maine artist Kenny Cole who will talk about the creation of his current installation “Parabellum (Prepare for War),” made especially for UMMA’s Zillman Gallery. The free talk will be held noon-1 p.m. Thursday, March 6.
In this talk the artist will discuss his creative process, specifically for this piece, and the various motifs and ideas from past work which have become further developed through it. As his most ambitious installation to date, “Parabellum” reflects Cole’s desire for an increased social awareness in art. It is his desire to create art that engages; both physically, with participatory interactivity and politically, with this, his first foray into culture jamming and institutional critique. Kenny Cole will discuss how these newer forms of art-making add relevance both to the process of creating and to the total viewing experience.
