BANGOR, Maine  — Nothing means more to a young man than buying something with his hard-earned money. This spring, Scouts from Katahdin Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, will have that opportunity when they sell Camp Cards to raise funds for their summer camp experience.

To help Scouts “earn their way to camp” and ease their financial burdens, the Katahdin Area Council, BSA is pleased to announce its 2014 Camp Card sale. This initiative is designed to help Scouts earn their way to summer resident camp, high adventure camp or day camp.

“Simply put, we want our Scouts to go to camp,” says Marshall Steinmann Katahdin Area Council’s Executive Director, in a press release. “In these challenging economic times, we don’t want family finances to keep a Scout from attending the camp of their choice. Scouts will also learn an important value, earning their own way.”

Scouts participating in this sale will earn a substantial commission on each Camp Card they sell. Cards sell for $5 each and feature a variety of all-day or everyday discounts from local vendors such as McDonald’s, Governor’s and Olympia Sports. A full list of vendors is available on the Katahdin Area Council’s Facebook page. Unique to this discount card, are the one-time, tear-off coupons.

The council is excited to partner with:

  • McDonald’s Restaurants for a buy one large sandwich get one free.
  • IGA and Best Yet Grocery Stores for a $5 off $50 purchase coupon.
  • Gold Star Cleaners for a $10 off dry cleaning coupon.
  • Circle K Convenience Stores for a 95-cent coffee, any size, coupon.

Steinmann says, “The professional team and local volunteers worked very hard to make this card a no brainer for the consumer to purchase.”

The 2014 Camp Card will be sold by Scouts in Aroostook, Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Waldo and Washington counties through June 13.
