FORT KENT: All veterans are encouraged to attend Memorial Services for our departed comrades who died in the service of their country. MEMORIAL DAY is an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May. It honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. Military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and/or participating in parades.

Memorial Day Services will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2014
Meet at American Legion Post #133 at 0700hrs (7:00 AM). We will depart the post at 0800hrs (8:00 AM) to perform ceremonies at Daigle, Wallagrass (2) and Soldier Pond cemeteries followed by Military Honors at the Soldier Pond Bridge concluding the morning services.
The Fort Kent Veterans organizations are sponsoring a Memorial Day Parade at 1300hrs (1:00 PM) on May 25, 2014. All veterans are invited and encouraged to attend. More than 10 organizations, including the 836th Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadet Marching Band, will be participating. Those wishing to participate in honoring those who have fallen are asked to assemble at the N.M.M.C. parking lot for the afternoon parade at 12:00 PM. The parade will travel down East Main Street to the Daigle Oil Company Service Station and then south on Pleasant Street with a pause at the two monuments across from the Fort Kent Library and the cemetery. The parade will end at Fort Kent Community High School. Refreshments will be available at the American Legion Post following the parade. Vehicles and parade float(s) to accommodate veterans who cannot walk will be available.
Any person or group wishing to participate is encouraged to contact Jim Palmer, Parade Chairman, at 436-0028.
If it rains in the afternoon, the parade will be cancelled.
