AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine State Library will honor Law Day on Thursday, May 1, by hosting area attorney, Daniel Stevens, for an open session where patrons can receive free legal advice. Stevens will be on hand 10 a.m.-2 p.m. to answer questions, make referrals and offer information on legal options for people who don’t otherwise qualify for free assistance. No appointment is necessary.

The program is part of a statewide initiative, Lawyers in Libraries: Law Day 2014, organized by the Maine Justice Action Group Collaboration on Innovation, Technology and Equal Access to Justice. The partnership includes Maine’s public libraries, Maine State Bar Association, Maine Bar Foundation, State of Maine Judicial Branch, and Maine’s legal aid providers.

Several other libraries around Maine are hosting similar events. For a full listing of participating libraries, or to learn more about the Lawyers in Libraries program, visit http://www.lawyersinlibraries.org.
