Lady’s Slipper Walk

Join Bangor Land Trust as we go in search of the rare Lady’Slipper. Also known as Moccasin-flowers, Lady’s Slippers are a unique member of the orchid family that require highly specific habitats to grow. For the past several years, George Elliott and Gail Downs, who will be leading this walk, have seen hundreds of dainty pink and white Lady’s Slippers scattered throughout Walden-Parke Preserve.

The walk will begin and end at the Bangor Land Trust trail head kiosk at the end of Tamarack Trail. As the area is generally wet during the spring, we strongly suggest boots and bug protection. Remember to please stay on the trails – take home only photos and memories in order to protect the delicate ecology of the preserve.

We’ve had a recent report that the flowers are growing fast. The Walk date has changed to Sunday, June 1 at 2 pm. Please check website http://www.bangorlandtrust.org/ladys-slippers-walk.html or call 942-1010. Please leave a message and someone will get back to you.

Turn right onto Walden Park Way off of Essex Street just past the Church Road intersection. Follow Walden Park Way for 1 mile and then turn right onto Tamarack Trail. Drive .7 miles and park around the cul-de-sac.

Rain date on 6/8/14 if necessary. Check status at www.bangorlandtrust.org or call 942-1010.
