THOMASTON, Maine — The Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County (PMHSKC) is pleased to announce that Karen Claywell has been elected to its Board of Directors. Claywell intends to apply her creativity and 25 years of career experience in the human relations field to advance PMHSKC’s developmental, fundraising and volunteer programs.
PMHSKC Board President Richard Procopio noted: “Karen’s dedication to animal welfare, boundless enthusiasm, and excellent people management skills are all welcome characteristics for our organization. She is a great addition to the Board and we look forward to her many future contributions.”
Claywell added: “I am honored to join the PMHSKC team at such an exciting time. With the recent launch of a capital campaign for a new shelter building, I am looking forward to working with such a group of amazing and devoted individuals.”
A Maine resident for the past 16 years, Claywell is currently the Business and Human Resource Manager at All-4-U Staffing Agency in Rockland. Previously, she was Operations Manager at the Camden, Rockport & Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce. She has also held human resource manager positions at Camden National Bank and Maine General Health.
Her professional and community volunteer work has included participation in the Maine Women’s Network, the Society for Human Resource Management, Volunteers of America, and the Rockland Lobster Festival. She has also served on the boards of the Camden Rockport Animal Rescue League (now, PAWS) and the Salem (CT) Animal Shelter.
Claywell resides in Friendship with her golden retriever, Cooper, and Labradoodle, Spirit.
The PMHSKC was founded in 1989 to provide care, protection, and loving homes for abandoned and homeless companion animals in the Midcoast Maine area. The Society operates an animal shelter located between the Dexter Street Extension and Buttermilk Lane in Thomaston that is open between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday (closed Sundays). The Humane Society of Knox County provides animal support services to the towns of Rockland, Thomaston, Warren, Owls Head, St. George, Port Clyde, Martinsville, Tenants Harbor, S. Thomaston (including Spruce Head), Hope, Union, Appleton, Montville, Cushing, Matinicus, North Haven, Vinalhaven, Stockton Springs, and Morrill.
