BELFAST — Jonathan Fulford (D-Monroe) announced his candidacy today for Senate District 11, which covers all of Waldo County. Fulford is a carpenter and has owned and operated Artisan Builders in Belfast for twenty-six years.
“As a father and grandfather, I am committed to building a strong local economy so we can all find good work and so our children don’t have to move out of state to find a job,” said Fulford. “I believe we need leaders in Augusta who don’t give tax breaks to the rich when the state can’t even pay its bills. Working Mainers deserve a fighting chance to raise their families.”
A small business owner, Fulford is an active member of the Waldo County community and is committed to sustainable development for all of Maine. He is a member of the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association and the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association. He also serves as president of a community organization that gets Mainers on the water.
“This is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I want to make sure there is a healthy Maine for my grandchildren get a chance to enjoy.”
In addition to working as a builder, Fulford has been a paper boy, camp counselor, farm hand, apple picker, apple pruner, house painter, and a little league coach. He moved to Maine when he was 18 and has lived on a small farm in Monroe since 1982. He and Christine Yentes have four grown children and three grandchildren, all of whom live in Waldo County.
Fulford is running as a Clean Elections candidate.
