Marcia McDavid, 6-8 Language Arts Teacher at Jonesport Elementary School, is also a passionate photographer. Fifty of her photos from the Jonesport/Beals area and beyond will hang in the Peabody Memorial Library until mid-November. Partial proceeds go to the Library as well as the JES 8th grade class trip.

At the ripe age of eight, McDavid, who grew up in Santa Barbara, California, shot her first roll of film in San Francisco?s China town and has been shooting ever since. She switched from film to digital five years ago. McDavid, who lives on Beals Island, is frequently seen at the tip of Perio Point, capturing the first moments of a sunrise. The Jonesport/Beals bridge is also a favorite vantage point for sunsets. With the exception of the sun’s appearance and disappearance, McDavid?s shooting is quite spontaneous. She once stood on a wharf, focusing on a reflection in the water, and Suki, a fisherman, climbed up out of a boat and smiled “right smack dab into her camera lens.” His image, presently hanging in the Peabody Memorial Library, is one of her favorite candid people shots.

The photos in the Peabody Memorial Library show range from colorful buoys and boats to pirates and Shriner circus clowns, with flaming red flowers and a lone coffee cup, in between.

There will be a reception Saturday, October 26th, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Light refreshments will be provided by various generous friends of the artist as well as Ivy Robinson, a JES student, who has a passion for baking. From near or far, all are welcome.

Exhibit runs during library hours through mid-November. FMI contact the library at 497-3003.
