BREWER — Staff has been busy at Penobscot Ice Arena painting, cleaning and conducting some regular maintenance. The puck marks have been cleaned off the board glass and the new chiller plant was slated to be started for the first time Tuesday, May 24.
The rink is scheduled to reopen Sunday, June 12, and there will be a public skate at 1:50 p.m. for people to come try out the new ice.
And while it might be getting warm outside, PIA has a full slate of summer youth, midget and co-ed adult leagues planned, in addition to Pro-Ambitions Battle Camp, Inside Edge Hockey Camp and Jr. Pounders Summer Camp back again this year. In addition, All Pro Summer Hockey School has been scheduled from June 21-24. The camp is run by Andy Bezeau, who spent 10 years as a professional player in the NHL, AHL, IHL and ECHL. He has devoted more than 20 years as a hockey coach and instructor. The cost for the summer school is $525 for a full day or $325 for a half day.
