Husson to award honorary doctorate degree to Royce Cross

BANGOR, Maine — Cross Insurance, a subsidiary of Cross Financial Corp., and one of the largest independent insurance providers in New England, has announced that Royce Cross, president and CEO of the Bangor-based agency, will receive an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration from Husson University during the University’s 115th Commencement Ceremony Sunday, May 11, at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Cross is being recognized by Husson for his personal values of integrity, hard work, loyalty and dedication as a business and community leader.  Since 1969, Husson has recognized prominent citizens for their contributions to the community, the State of Maine, the nation, and the world.

“Royce M. Cross is not only an exceptional business leader; he is a man whose integrity and dedication to helping others has enriched our state.   Together, we share a vision of improving our society through education,” said Robert A. Clark, PhD., president and CEO of Husson University, in a press release. “Husson University and the Cross Family believe in the importance of preparing students for professional careers in current and emerging fields that contribute to improving the health and well-being of individuals, families, businesses and communities. He is well deserving of this prestigious honor.”

The Cross Family has a long-standing affiliation with Husson, a business, health and education, and science and humanities-driven private university that boasts more than 3,500 students and

bases its primary campus on 208 acres in Bangor.  Woodrow Cross, founder of Cross Insurance, took classes from Chesley Husson, who led the institution for nearly half a century and for whom Husson University is named.

Born and raised in Bangor, Royce Cross is a graduate of Bangor High School and has worked for Cross Insurance since January 1970.

“Our agency is extremely proud of our ongoing legacy with Husson University, a pillar of academic excellence in the state of Maine,” Cross said.  “I proudly accept this honor, and I congratulate this year’s outstanding graduating class on their many achievements.”

Since its founding in 1954, Cross Insurance has grown extensively through the acquisition of more than 100 insurance agencies throughout New England.  Among its many clients, Cross Insurance insures the New England Patriots, the Boston Bruins, the Boston Red Sox, and the Portland Sea Dogs.
