Holly Near & Emma’s Revolution Concert tickets on sale now

ORONO, Maine — Folk singer and composer, Holly Near, will perform a Concert for Community at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at University of Maine’s Hauck Auditorium. She will be joined by special guests Pat Humphries and Sandy O of Emma’s Revolution, an award winning song-writing  duo that contribute guitar, banjo, ukelele and exquisitely complex vocal harmonies.

Tickets for the concert are $20  and  are for sale at the Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine, 96 Harlow Street,  Suite 100 , Bangor. You can  also purchase tickets at the Center’s website www.peacectr.org. or reserve by calling 942-9343.

Holly Near has worked for more than 40 years as a singer, songwriter and teacher. With her powerful voice, wry sense of humor, and curious mind she interprets the songs of the folk tradition, Broadway, cabaret and pop with equal grace. Performing material from Near’s recent recording, “Peace Becomes You” as well as old favorites from her earlier repertoire and a few standards from the American Songbook, Near presents an uplifting and entertaining evening of music.

Throughout her long career Holly has worked with a wide array of musicians, including Pete Seeger, Ronnie Gilbert, Arlo Guthrie, Mercedes Sosa, Bernice Johnson Reagon, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Joan Baez, Phil Ochs, Harry Belafonte, and many others.

Holly Near has been recognized many times for her work for social change, including honors from the ACLU, the National Lawyers Guild, the National Organization for Women, and the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences; she was named Ms. Magazine Woman of the Year and received the Legends of Women’s Music Award.

The concert is sponsored by the Peace & Justice Center, the University of Maine’s Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies and the University of Maine’s student group, the Maine Peace Action Committee, which will celebrate its 40thanniversary at the concert.  Some of the proceeds of the ticket sales  will benefit the Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine. for more information call 942-9343.
