HAMPDEN — The Hampden Historical Society will host an open house 1-4 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at its Kinsley House Museum and Archive, with light refreshments, historic displays and door prizes. The Kinsley House Museum is located at 83 Main Road South, Route 1A.
The open house will feature historical displays including military uniforms and memorabilia from WWI to the present. Tours of the Kinsley House also include artifacts and memorabilia dating back to the War of 1812 and the Battle of Hampden.
The Hannibal Hamlin Law Office will also be open for tours. Mr. Hamlin practiced law in this very building from 1834 until the time he was inaugurated as Vice President of the United States under President Abraham Lincoln. The HHS Archive will also be open for anyone interested in conducting genealogical research of Hampden families.
In addition to the April 28th Open House the Society will hold its April monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, April 23. A presentation on military uniforms will be the featured program. The meeting takes place at the Kinsley House Museum meeting room, 83 Main Road South.
A completely volunteer organization, HHS has been serving Hampden and the surrounding communities since 1970. The Museum and Archive are open each Tuesday 10:00 a.m.-4 p.m. April through October.
