The Halcyon Duo (Eve Friedman on flute and Roberto Pace on piano) has returned for another summer in Lubec teaching flute and composition at SummerKeys. The Duo will also perform in the 4th Mary Potterton Memorial Concert on Wednesday, July 11th, at 7:30 p.m.
In ‘06, Eve Friedman became the first person ever awarded the Doctor of Music degree in Baroque Flute from Indiana University’s Early Music Institute. Ms. Friedman has performed with Tafelmusik (Toronto) and Tempesta di Mare (Philadelphia), among others, as well as with her husband Roberto Pace in Italy at the festival Incontri di Canna.
Pianist/composer Roberto Pace has achieved great success in the fields of concert, theater, and dance music, and is a highly regarded educator and lecturer (watch for the upcoming morning lectures, starting July 9th). He has performed in Europe, Canada, Japan, and the US. Mr. Pace studied at the New England Conservatory with Pulitzer Prize winning composer Donald Martino, holds an M.F.A in composition from SUNY Purchase, and teaches theory and composition at the Settlement Music School of Philadelphia.
The Duo will perform Arnold Schoenberg’s “Three Piano Pieces, Op.11,” and two Claude Debussy pieces, “Syrinx” and an arrangement of “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun.” Also featured is Cecile Chaminade’s Concertino for flute, and “Poem,” by Charles Griffes. Intermission Refreshments will be provided by the Downeast Coastal Conservancy.

Featured pieces include an Argentine concerto for solo mandolin by Luiz Gianneo, performed by Ms. Mair, and a German concerto for alto recorder by Gustav Gunnsenheimer, performed by Catherine Hawkes.
The concert will also include music by Arcangelo Corelli, 19th-century Cuban composer Ignacio Cervantes, Brazilian composers Mozart Camargo Guarneri and Anecleto de Medeiros, and contemporary North American composers Will Ayton, Robert N. Martel, Radim Zenkl, Tim Ware, and Ms. Mair. Intermission refreshment providers TBA.
