Full-day Seminar Focuses on Exploring New Passages for Business Growth in the Arctic & North Atlantic
In response to changing shipping routes that have placed Maine businesses on the doorstep of the Arctic and Northern Europe, Verrill Dana will host a full-day seminar, “Arctic Opportunities: Exploring New Passages for Business Growth in the Arctic and North Atlantic,” on Thursday, October 19 at the firm’s Portland, Maine offices.
“Developments in the Arctic are an extremely important issue for Maine businesses to be watching. Every year, more and more Maine companies are finding new markets, new products, and new suppliers as a result of Maine’s new relationship with the Arctic and Northern Europe,” said Ben Ford, an attorney in Verrill Dana’s North Atlantic & Arctic Group. “It is extremely exciting to support and advise our clients on these new ventures.”
Taking place after more than 50 Maine professionals, including Ford, return from the Arctic Circle Assembly in Iceland, speakers and audience members will have a fresh take on how businesses in the state can take advantage of new opportunities. During the conference, keynote speakers, Kuno Fencker and Pele Broberg, of Greenland Trading, will provide an overview on Arctic development from the Greenland perspective.
In addition, topics will include: Transportation & Logistics; Business Support & Grants; Investment & Finance; and Trade & Tax Issues. At the conclusion of the event, attendees will explore how opportunities in the Arctic will affect the economic landscape in their particular industries such as seafood and craft beverage, infrastructure and construction, and technology, research and citizen science.
