Looking for ways to save money in your municipal budget? Is your community interested in playing a role in creating a sustainable economy? You have a great opportunity to learn strategies to help achieve these objectives at the 20th Annual Maine Recycling and Solid Waste Management Conference on April 29th and 30th at the Samoset Resort in Rockport.

This year’s conference features keynotes by four national speakers. Juri Freeman from Skumatz Economic Research Associates will discuss the results of research on “Cost Effective Strategies for Saving Money And Reducing Trash”. The effect of plastics and other materials in the oceans on marine organisms and human health is the topic of Dr. Kara Lavender Law from the Sea Education Association. Jeri Weiss from U.S. EPA will dissect the meaning of “sustainable materials management”, and the ever-entertaining John Trotti, Editor of the MSW Management Journal, will provide his insights and opinions on the solid waste industry.

Conference sessions are focused on significant strategies for reducing the costs of managing solid waste, including the burgeoning area of food scrap composting for schools and businesses. Training in composting and safety training for solid waste facility operators is also being offered. In addition, the Exhibition Hall provides an opportunity to discuss innovations and evolutions in recycling and solid waste management with vendors and leaders from throughout the northeast. More information on the conference and registration is available on-line at www.mrra.net.
