Free Workshops at the Regional Job Fair in Pittsfield on Wednesday, May 14, 2014

The Town of Pittsfield and the Kennebec-Somerset Transition Team would like to get the word out about the wide variety of helpful workshops being offered this week at the 7th Annual Regional Job Fair being held in Pittsfield.

The Job Fair will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 3:30 pm – 6:30 pm at the Warsaw Middle School Gym, 167 School Street in Pittsfield.

The Job Fair and workshops are available to anyone who is interested. While the Job Fair and Training sessions originally were planned for Kennebec and Somerset Counties, and the Sebasticook Valley, citizens from other communities are certainly welcome. You do not have to register to attend the workshops – just drop by.

These sessions are completely free and will provide a lot of helpful information.

The following sessions will be located in a block of classrooms in Warsaw Middle School by the Gym:

3:35 – 4:35 PM Women Unlimited
Women Unlimited improves the financial independence of Maine women, minorities, and disadvantaged workers by providing training and access to jobs with livable wages for careers in trades, construction, technical, and transportation industries. We’ve got up-to-date information on careers in construction and related fields, and we assist employers looking for a twenty-first century workforce. Come find out everything about us you ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask!

3:55 – 4:55 PM Business Start Up Resources
Are you thinking about starting a business? Join us to discuss your ideas, discover what steps to take, and learn about small business resources available in our area.

4:15 – 5:15 PM Grieving After a Job Loss
Separation from employment can be a devastating event in one’s life for so many reasons, but usually people fail to recognize there is a grieving process much like the loss of a loved one. Come learn about how to cope with the loss, red flags when it may continue too long and how to move on to the next stage of life. Or, if you are a concerned person, how to emotionally support someone who has lost their job.

4:35 – 5:35 PM Financial Literacy – Money Matters
Thinking of changing careers, but need to return to school or obtain additional training? Come learn about available resources and funding possibilities available to assist you.

4:55 – 5:55 PM Maine CareerCenter Q & A
During this interactive workshop, professionals from the Maine CareerCenter will be available to help you target your work search problem areas and answer any questions you have about how to effectively use the centers in your quest for employment.

5:00 – 6:30 PM Maximizing Social Media in Your Job Search
Learn how to best use LinkedIn to network with people, companies, and how to market yourself; discover the best job search websites to use and how to create effective job search agents in them. Discussion will also include how to use LinkedIn as well as other tools to develop an online portfolio.

Numerous local and regional employers are hiring so many jobs will be available. There will be something for everyone here. We have well over 300 jobs being offered plus internships, trainings and plenty of resource materials.
