FORT KENT, Maine — Fort Kent Community High School senior Samantha Dubay has organized a fundraiser as part of her senior project to benefit The Children’s Heart Foundation and the cardiac ward at Maine Medical Center.
The fundraiser will be a Heart Healthy Kids Fun Day March 29, at Lonesome Pine Trails, for an alpine ski race for children through eighth grade, face painting and other games at the bottom of the ski hill. Registration for the race begins at 8 a.m. and the event starts at 10 a.m. Preregistration is available at Lonesome Pine Trails. Medals will be awarded to first, second and third place finishes in each category.
Dubay chose these charities to help fund research and improve treatments for congenital heart defects. Her topic for her senior project is how new technology is positively affecting the treatment of childhood congenital heart defects, or an abnormality in the heart that one is born with. Dubay was born with a congenital heart defect, and because of evolving technology, she was fortunate enough to have a procedure performed on her heart that improved her quality of life.
Pamphlets with information on childhood congenital heart defects along with Samantha’s story will be available for parents the day of the event.
