FORT KENT, ME, MAY 23, 2013: Martin-Klein Post 133 is throwing a party! On June 30th the Fort Kent American Legion Post with the assistance of the Fort Kent Historical Society will hold a 90th Anniversary Historical Open House. The open houses is from 11am – 2pm and is open to the public. There is no cost for the meal.

The Martin-Klein Post is Fort Kent’s oldest veterans’ service organization and is holding this public event to raise awareness. Chad Pelletier, President of the Fort Kent Historical Society has graciously volunteered several WWI artifacts which will be on display at the Fort Kent Post. Anyone with WWI items and any other pertinent memorabilia may contact either Chad Pelletier at 834-2115 or Duane Belanger at 951-2874 if they would like to have their items cataloged and/or displayed.
The event also serves as a project announcement to mark all veterans’ gravesites in the Fort Kent area with Veteran Flag Holders. The Fort Kent Legion marks all veterans’ graves on Memorial Day and very few have actual flag holders. Having a flag holder on each grave will make it easier to ensure every grave is properly marked with a flag and identify the 500+ veterans buried in the greater Fort Kent area. Every day is Veterans’ Day as the sacrifices of those buried have paid for the freedoms we enjoy.

Any business or individual wishing to make a contribution to the Veteran Flag Holder Fund may do so in memory of a veteran and send the donation to:

Martin-Klein Post 133
411 West Main Street
Fort Kent, ME 04743

The Fort Kent post has been proudly serving Fort Kent for over 90 years and we invite veterans to join us to continue this great tradition in the spirit of our motto “For God & County!”

For more information please contact Duane J Belanger, Commander, Martin-Klein Post 133 via cell at (207) 951-2874 or Chad Pelletier, President, Fort Kent Historical Society at (207) 834-2115.
