Five Bangor area students receive $2,500 Chick-fil-A Leadership Scholarships

BANGOR — Chick-fil-A®, Inc. has selected Jacob Berenyi of Levant, Micah Martin of Winterport, Caitlin Peary of Corinth, Ryan McGraw of Hampden, and Laura Gordon of Plymouth as recipients of the chain’s $2,500 Leadership Scholarships.

All of the recipients were endorsed by Todd Schultz, Operator of Chick-fil-A Bangor Restaurant. All winners were selected based on the following criteria: leadership, academic achievement, and community involvement.

Three of the recipients are current high school seniors that will be graduating in June. Jacob Berenyi and Caitlin Peary have both worked for Chick-fil-A for just over a year and a half. Micah Martin has worked for Chick-fil-A for just over 6 months.

The additional two honorees are repeat scholarship winners. Ryan McGraw is attending the University of Maine and has been on the Chick-fil-A team for more than a year and a half. Laura Gordon is attending Gordon College and has been with Chick-fil-A since the Bangor location opened in November 2016.

The Chick-fil-A Leadership Scholarship Program began in 1973 out of founder Truett Cathy’s desire to encourage restaurant employees to further their education. Since the program’s inception, more than 46,000 team members have received scholarships, bringing the total amount to nearly $60.5 million.

In 2018, Chick-fil-A will award $14.5 Million in Team Member scholarships. More than 5,700 Team members will receive $2500 scholarships that can be used at any accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school.
