To celebrate the Roosevelt Campobello International Park’s Fiftieth Anniversary and in conjunction with the Park’s Anniversary Celebration, artist Michael Chesley Johnson has created a series of fifty paintings. The paintings, which feature scenes of the Park, will be exhibited at the Park’s new restaurant, The Fireside, July 19-August 16. The Campobello Island restaurant is located at 610 Route 774, Welshpool, New Brunwsick, and is open Monday-Thursday, 11:30-5; Friday-Saturday, 11:30-10; and Sunday, 11-4.
Johnson will present a free outdoor painting demonstration for the public on Sunday, July 20, at 2-3 pm Atlantic Time at The Fireside.
Johnson owns Friar’s Bay Studio Gallery, also on Campobello Island, and paints in the Park and leads painting workshops there throughout the summer. “Because I have been painting in the Park for ten years, it has become very important to me, and I wanted to help celebrate this important anniversary in a meaningful way.” Johnson, who used the online crowdfunding site Kickstarter to fund the project, painted the pieces in oil and in a small 6″x6″ format. In addition to the paintings, he will be creating a book that features them, plus a calendar and notecards.
Johnson is an award-winning, internationally-recognized artist as well as an author. His book, Through a Painter’s Brush: A Year on Campobello Island, features more paintings of the Park and other parts of the Island. More information about the exhibit and the artist can be found at his website,
