Snowy kids at vacation camp!

Enjoy your February vacation in Maine the way it should be enjoyed: by celebrating the many ways we take learning outside. Each day has a different theme and we’ve packed each day with exciting ways to learn about how humans and other living things survive our wonderful winter months. Dress for the weather! All days include stories, games and hands-on explorations of the natural world. Children ages 6-12, join us for one day or all four.
February 19-22, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Location: Fields Pond Audubon Center, Holden
Cost: $40/day member, $160/week; $50/day nonmember, $200/week. Advance registration is required. Please call 989-2591 or register online at www.maineaudubon.org.
Tuesday, February 19: Snow Science
We are off on an exploration into the world of snow and ice–in the field, forest, and stream. We’ll make our own crystals and discover the insulating power of snow.
Wednesday, February 20: Migrate, Hibernate, Activate
Who does what? We will investigate the tracks of animals that stay active, create a shelter to hibernate in, and explore the migration of some of our favorite animals. Along the way we will learn about the amazing adaptations animals use to survive the winter.
Thursday, February 21: Maine Birds in Winter
Which birds will we find at our feeders, or in the forest? Join us as we observe Maine’s winter birds, their diet and shelters. We will dissect owl pellets and make bird feeders.
Friday, February 22: A Winter Day of Play
Winter is in full force and the ice and snow are piling up. Hooray! We’ll stay warm playing winter games atop the ice and snow and, weather permitting, explore Fields Pond by hiking over it. Learn about staying warm, active, and well during this splendid day of play.
