Carol Yee, owner of Carol’s Collectibles Nursery in Swanville, is offering  informative garden and nursery talks, at 11 am and 2 pm on the first three Sundays in October: October 1st, Color, Fruits & Berries in the Fall Landscape, October 8th, Tree and Shrubs and Grasses for Fall and October 15th, Dwarf and Unusual Conifers for Year Round Interest.

A passionate gardener, Carol has been developing the open acreage surrounding her nursery and home with an evolving landscape. Her extensive plantings feature her favorites trees, shrubs and interesting conifers offering color, bird and bee forage and year round interest.  The nursery began eleven years ago in an open meadow surrounding her home. In addition to the nursery and her gardens, Yee maintains a greenhouse containing her tropical plant collection.

Carol’s mantra is that “Fall is the best time to plant.” She points out that by fall plants reproduction has been completed, giving transplants more energy to focus on establishing healthy root systems. At this time of year heat is less severe and ground water is more plentiful, all of which results in less transplant shock, particularly for evergreen trees and shrubs.

Yee has been propagating dwarf conifers, shrubs and a world-class collection of Rhododendron for more than two decades. Her nursery offers interesting and unusual plant material, including trees, shrubs, perennials, grasses and ground covers. Those attending the walks should leave their dogs at home. Directions and more information about these events are available at carolscollectibles.com.
