Tri County Workforce Investment Board’s Youth Council is currently planning a large youth event which will serve young adults from ages 16-24 in Penobscot, Piscataquis and Hancock Counties. This work is being done in partnership with Eastern Maine Community College, Penobscot Job Corps, Husson University, Eastern Maine Development Corporation, and the Maine National Guard and with support from businesses and additional educators. The youth told us in focus groups they did not want another job fair, this is different!

What: EPIC Maine: Exploring Pathways to Industries & Careers
A FREE event for youth and young adults ages 16-24.
When: April 24, 2014 from 10am-3pm
Where: Eastern Maine Community College Campus
Why: By offering this unique career development activity, youth and young adults will get opportunities to network with those workers who do the jobs they are interested in. Attendees will get to have meaningful conversations as well as see demonstrations of hand-on work by front line workers.

The purpose of this activity is to provide a networking opportunity as well as to motivate and engage older youth and young adults to think about what career track(s) they may be interested in. The partnership will coordinate businesses and professionals who will provide education, direction, and hands on experiences to attendees, which will strengthen and encourage informed decision-making by the youth. Transportation will be provided, if needed. Outreach and pre-work with students and interested young adults will occur prior to event day and students can register early to select areas of interest and be entered for a chance to win an iPad!

We want a record number of businesses to participate in this exciting new initiative: EPIC Maine! The opportunity is now for our current labor force to give back to the community by mentoring and inspiring area youth toward a fulfilling career in Maine. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. Call 974-9236 for more information.

Hospitality/Tourism; Forestry; Advanced Manufacturing; Construction; Transportation; Finance; Bioscience/Healthcare; Information Technology; Education; Innovation/Entrepreneurship; and more will be represented on event day.
