Emma’s Revolution to perform with Holly Near
Emma’s Revolution, the duo of award-winning activist folk musicians Pat Humphries and Sandy O, will join award winning performer, Holly Near in a concert for community on Friday,August 15th at 7:30 p.m. at Hauck Auditorium.
Their song “If I Give Your Name” won Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, and their music has been featured on NPR’s “All Things Considered” and Pacifica’s “Democracy Now!” “Peace, Salaam, Shalom” is sung around the world and has been called the anthem of the anti-war movement. “Keep On Moving Forward” opened the NGO Forum at the UN Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, becoming the unofficial theme of the conference.
Pete Seeger has said of their recording, “This record is part of the worldwide revolution which will save this planet … these songs you’ll find yourself singing for the rest of your life.” Emma’s Revolution has been described as dancing on the edge of folk and pop: “Bold, profound, moving, hilarious and transformative.” Critics applaud the sound of passion in “deftly-turned phrases,” and “songs imbued with hope, warmth and the power and drive to turn tears into laughter, cynicism into action.”

The Concert is co-sponsored by the Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies and the Maine Peace Action Committee at the University of Maine.
