BANGOR, Maine — Spring is finally here, but the ice storm that happened over the holidays is still fresh in the minds of many, especially those at Emera Maine.
The storm was the most significant storm in Eastern Maine since the Ice Storm of ’98. The storm lasted 11 days in all, leaving some in the dark for days. Many people were extremely patient and wrote letters and called Emera Maine with encouraging words.
Some even thanked the crews personally in the field. In one situation, a customer attempted to hand $50 to one of the line supervisors to buy coffee for the crews. Of course, he declined to take the money so the customer tossed it at him and drove away before he could hand it back.
The Emera Maine management wanted to make sure the money went to good use, so they decided to add to it and put it back into a program that made such a difference in the community at that time. United Way of Eastern Maine is pleased to announce that Emera Maine has presented United Way with $2,500, grown from that original $50 bill.
