PORTLAND, Maine — Dr. Barbara Crowley to receive Maine Health Management Coalition award
Barbara Crowley, MD, executive vice president at MaineGeneral, has been named one of the top 20 most influential people in Maine who is making a difference in improving health care quality and lowering cost.
The Maine Health Management Coalition award marks the Coalition’s 20th anniversary. Crowley will be recognized at the Coalition’s annual symposium Oct. 10 at the University of Southern Maine, Portland Campus.
The award honors individuals from across Maine who have worked to improve the value of health care, to teach others about successful efforts being carried out and to inspire others in Maine’s health care community to work together to increase quality, improve patient experiences and reduce costs.
A panel of national health care experts selected winners from a pool of nominations.
A pediatrician by training, Crowley practiced pediatrics in Augusta, Maine from 1986 until becoming an administrator at MaineGeneral in 2006. She also serves as president of Kennebec Region Health Alliance, a Physician-Hospital Organization which contracts with payers. In conjunction with the state of Maine, she is spearheading an effort to address quality, patient experience and lower costs for state employees enrolled in the state’s health plan.
Crowley is on the Board of Quality Counts and the Maine Health Management Coalition. She played a key role in enrolling MaineGeneral physician practices in a pilot project to develop patient-centered medical homes.
